Fourth Annual Lehigh Valley
Walk to D’Feet ALS®

(Center Valley, October 3) –The Fourth Annual Lehigh Valley Walk to D’Feet ALS® kicks off from Lehigh Valley College, Center Valley, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. More than 150 walks are being held nationwide for ALS.

ALS, also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neuromuscular disease affecting persons of all ages. Patients with ALS lose the ability to carry out the daily tasks of living; ultimately their ability to breathe is affected and they are able to survive only with ventilator assistance.<

According to Holly Bennett, event chair and dean of academics at the Lehigh Valley College, previous ALS Walks have brought together up to 700 participants; local efforts last year raised more than $50,000 in support of research and patient support programs. This year, participants are invited to take part as teams or individually. Team sponsorships, which often honor a specific person who has suffered from ALS, may be arranged in advance by visiting the website http://walk.alsphiladelphia.org .

In addition to the college, corporate and organizational sponsors this year include Griswold Special Care, Inc.; Legacy Planning, Inc.; Lehigh Cement Co.; Lehigh Valley Spinal Care Center; Martin’s Potato Chips, Inc.; NeighborCare; Nestle Waters; the Neuromuscular Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital; Quakertown National Bank; Scherline and Associates; Sam’s Club; Success Rehabilitation, Inc.; Target Select Advertising; Victaulic Corp.; Waddell & Reed, Inc.; WLEV, 100.7 FM; and Yocco’s Hot Dog King.

“The Lehigh Valley Walk was inspired by my grandmother, who lost her battle to ALS in 2004,” said Bennett. “My story is only one of many that can be told in the Lehigh Valley today. In its fourth year, I’m proud that the ALS Walk is now an annual tradition where our community can get together to support this cause.”

Same day registration opens at 9 a.m. on October 21. The walk is affiliated with the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association.
