LVC Will Donate 15 Computers to Casa Guadalupe, Allentown; Equipment to Be Installed December 1
(Center Valley, December 1) – Fifteen IBM Vista 52U computers, donated by Lehigh Valley College, Center Valley, will be installed at Casa Guadalupe Center, Allentown, at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1. Also provided will be monitors, keyboards, mouses, towers, and Windows XP and open Office software.
The work will be carried out by these personnel from the Student Services and IT departments at Lehigh Valley College: David Lopez (who arranged the donation) and Lee Bauder, student advisors; Joseph Grasser, IT manager; and Mark Schwartz, director of visual communications technology.
Senior citizens from Casa’s Jesus Ramos Senior Center and children from the Pa’lante Youth Program will use the computers, which will equip a lab on Casa’s third floor. At present, the lab has only three computers.
"The simple fact is that knowledge of computers is a requirement to higher paying jobs in today’s society," said Cori Rolón, Casa Guadalupe’s administrative and development officer. “Students and senior citizens learning computer skills at Casa can search for jobs online, write resumes, and complete school assignments. We are deeply appreciative that Lehigh Valley College is committed to helping us provide computer resources in the heart of the community."
"Well, it will be a lot easier to do my homework," said Bryan Monet, a middle school student in the Pa'lante program.
