About The Criminal Justice Program

The Criminal Justice program at Lehigh Valley College is designed to prepare students to enter into the criminal justice profession in a variety of first-tier protective services positions. Students of the program are exposed to the culture of the criminal justice system, and foundational areas of the discipline: investigation and law enforcement, law and courts, and corrections and parole. The program also addresses juvenile delinquency and the juvenile justice system. Within a variety of courses, students can:

  • Develop the ability to think critically and analytically about the causes of criminal behavior

  • Develop an understanding of criminal law, criminal procedures, civil law, the court system, and the corrections system

  • Develop strong oral and written communication skills

  • Be exposed to the functions, duties, and roles of law enforcement professionals

  • Complete an internship course designed to provide practical field experience

In addition all of the programs at LVC have an internship component. The internship allows the students to receive hands on practical experience and serves as a finishing course for their program of study. Students are placed in positions in facilities that match their program and are supervised during this training period.

Students in the Criminal Justice program should be aware that additional education or testing may be required for employment in some positions. Upon successful completion of the Criminal Justice Program, an Associate in Science Degree is awarded. In most cases, the Criminal Justice Degree can be earned in as little as 18 months.
